Hydration Plan

The weather is starting to get warm.  I love the spring and fall weather to run it.  It is perfect.  But we are coming in on summer.  And with the temperatures in the 80 here in Cleveland, and my afternoon run it made me think.  Well actually during my run about 1.5 miles into my run I started having some abdominal pain.  I was able to stretch a bit and finish out the last 1.5 miles but it was still painful.  When I got home I was still in pain.  I immediately started to re-hydrate.

As runners one of the first lessons we learn out there is that we need to stay hydrated.  One of the biggest mistakes that we make is thinking that we will be ok and we don't need to take fluids with us on our run.  Today is exactly that problem for me.  I told myself that I am only doing a short 3 mile run, I do not need to bring water with me.  The problem with that thought is that the sun is hot, and it is humid.  We loose fluids so quickly on days like today.  We need to make sure that we are taking care of ourselves out there.

Hydration is not only important while we are on our runs, training or races, but during the entire day.  Actually if we are going to be doing any kind of exercise we need to make sure that we are taking the time to drink.  I drink green tea, water, coffee and Shakeology.  I stopped drinking any kind of soda a while ago, which I am thankful for.  The types of fluids that we put into our bodies is so important.  The same goes when we talk about what we eat.  We need to make sure that we are fueling ourselves with real food, and not crap!
Don't get sick out there.  Don't have yourself not reach your full potential.  Hydration is so very important it keeps us going.  It helps us to look healthy. It keeps us full.  When you are going to be out giving of yourself, you need to give back - and proper hydration is so important.

If you don't have a daily plan to make sure you are drinking enough water, there is no better time than now to make one.  If you are joining me in running the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, we have 17 days to get our bodies ready.  There is plenty of time to get hydrated so that on May 20, 2012 we can run to our fullest potential.  If you are not joining me there but you are adding exercise into your daily routine such as a Beachbody Challenge (if you want to hear about that let me know) it is just as important.  Either way before summer comes knocking on our door, it is time to start hydrating our bodies so that they will function the best they can for us!
